GOVERNMENT has declared a seven day national mourning in honor of fourth Republican President Rupiah Bwezani Banda.

This follows the death of Mr Banda who died on Friday, March 11, this year.In a media statement, Acting Secretary to cabinet Patrick Kangwa said the seven day period of national mourning is in honour of Mr Banda’s immense contribution to the nation as fourth President as well as a gallant freedom fighter.Mr Kangwa said members of the public are requested to observe the seven days of national mourning from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours effective yesterday by postponing or cancelling all entertainment activities.And the acting sectretary to cabinet said Mr Banda will be put to rest on Friday, 18th March, 2022 at the Presidential Burial Site, Embassy Park, in Lusaka.”Members of the public are also advised that the funeral gathering for the late President is being held at Belvedere lodge at the corner of Chindo road and Leopard hill road in Lusaka, ” he said.He said prior to the burial, the government will host a State Funeral on Thursday, 17th March, 2022 at 10:00 hours at the Lusaka Show grounds.
