A peasant farmer of Masiwa village in Chief Madzimawe’s area has called on fellow farmers in the area and across Eastern Province and the nation to be food secure by not selling all their produce.
Jackson Mbewe told Feel Free news in an exclusive interview that most areas in the Province were blessed with a bumper harvest in the immediate past farming season.
Mr. Mbewe says that some farmers have become excited by selling their farm produce without bearing in mind the need to preserve some for consumption.
He says it will be unfortunate for some farmers to be looking up to government for relief food when they had harvested enough to sustain their families.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mbewe has applauded government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives for the timely delivery of inputs last season under the Farmer Input Support Program FISP.
He has however called on the Ministry to consider new cooperatives for input allocation this season as they have been sidelined in the previous years.
