Chef 187 withdraws from the Stanbic Music Fest (See Reason)

Zambian rapper Chef 187 has pulled out of this year’s Stanbic Music Festival following incidents of disrespect and unprofessionalism from the event organizers. Reports reveal that Chef 187 was barred from the VIP section, which was reserved solely for international artists Omarion and Musiq Soulchild. After his performance, Chef 187 was either expected to leave the venue or stay with the general audience, as Zambian artists were denied VIP access.

Additionally, during his soundcheck, Chef 187 was reportedly asked to stop to accommodate Omarion’s own soundcheck, further fueling frustration. This treatment has sparked outrage within Zambia’s music industry, highlighting the unfair distinction between local and international acts at the event.

Fellow artist Yo Maps quickly voiced support for Chef 187, condemning the lack of professionalism shown by the event’s promoters. He pointed out the unfair conditions Zambian artists face, including long waits for soundchecks and limited performance time. Yo Maps stressed that local artists, who have made significant contributions to both the local and global music scenes, deserve the same respect as international performers.

Since Chef 187’s decision to withdraw, many other artists and industry figures have rallied behind him, expressing their frustration over the continued disregard for Zambian talent. The incident has ignited a larger debate about the need for equal treatment of local artists, with calls for immediate reforms in how such events are organized.

This moment marks a pivotal turning point for Zambia’s music industry. As more voices stand in solidarity with Chef 187, it’s evident that local artists are no longer willing to accept second-class treatment. While the festival organizers have yet to respond, this incident is poised to leave a lasting impact on the value and treatment of Zambian artists moving forward.
